Processing Underway at New E-beam Plant in Komenda, Slovenia
STERIS AST has expanded its sterilization services offering within Europe with a new greenfield build in Komenda, Slovenia.
The state-of-the-art facility offers electron beam sterilization and bioburden reduction services to healthcare product manufacturers in the region.
The expansion of services in Slovenia allows STERIS to support the future requirements of our Customers within Europe, as this is a strategic location for our Customers’ supply chain logistics.
Ongoing Expansion at Tullamore, Ireland
The expansion at Tullamore continues into 2018, securing capacity for a number of our European Customers for years to come.
As well as the opening of a second E-beam facility and the addition of vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP) processing capability, this year will also see the installation of extra ethylene oxide processing capacity and a new, purpose-built laboratory expansion.

Innovative EO Technology at Venlo, The Netherlands
The expansion of our Venlo site has been completed with the addition of new EO chambers that utilize our innovative EO+ technology, which reduces EO input and residuals post-processing.
Derek Haynes, Director of Engineering, comments, “I’m delighted to advise that we have successfully run our first EO cycle in our new Venlo 2.0 facility.
« Testing and qualification will now continue in preparation for the first Customer performance qualification to commence in February.”
This expansion strengthens our EO service offering in Europe, providing future processing capacity for growing Customer demand in the region.
New EO Capacity at Kuala Ketil
In response to growing Customer demand for Ethylene Oxide processing in Malaysia, installation of a new 24 pallet chamber is underway at our site at Kuala Ketil.
Khairun Nadzim, Malaysia Operations Manager, comments, “We are pleased to be able to invest in our ethylene oxide processing capacity to better suit the needs of our Customers”.
The new chamber will be available for processing in mid-2018.
STERIS Acquires Herotron
In December, STERIS AST acquired Herotron E-Beam Service GmbH, supporting our commitment to providing sterilization capacity to our global Customers.
Through its location in Bitterfeld, Germany, Herotron provides E-beam services via two accelerators to central and eastern Europe.
In addition to medical devices, Herotron’s services are utilized for gemstones and polymer modification.
